Ulaanbaatar, October 21, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The “UN Week,” organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, commenced with a Stakeholders’ Dialogue themed “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
The dialogue focused on Mongolia’s contributions to multilateral cooperation, the tangible benefits it has gained as a UN member, the current level of Mongolia-UN partnership, and future directions for collaboration. Participants also exchanged views on strengthening the UN’s strategic engagement in supporting Mongolia’s national development priorities.
Former Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Enkhbold Vorshilov said, “Mongolia has established diplomatic relations with all UN member states. The United Nations classifies its members into three categories: least developed, developing, and developed countries. Mongolia belongs to the developing group. Today, the world celebrates the 80th anniversary of the UN, the largest and most influential international organization, which has played a vital role in global governance. Established on October 24, 1945, following the end of World War II, the UN has consistently contributed to peace, development, and cooperation over the past eight decades. For Mongolia, joining the United Nations in 1961 was a historic milestone that ensured international recognition of its independence and sovereignty. Since then, our country has received support and maintained close cooperation with the organization across many fields.”
He also noted that Mongolia, as a UN member state, has actively participated in international peacekeeping operations and, since 1994, has declared itself a nuclear-weapon-free zone—an important step in its global peace policy. At present, 32 UN member states are classified as landlocked developing countries, and Mongolia continues to play an active and constructive role in representing and advancing their interests at the international level.
