Thirty World Records Set During the 2024 Weightlifting World Championships

Ulaanbaatar, December 17, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The 2024 Weightlifting World Championships concluded on December 15, 2024, in Manama, Bahrain.


A team of seven athletes represented Mongolia among 471 athletes from 91 countries. Honored Athlete of Mongolia Ankhtsetseg Munkhjantsan lifted 116 kg in the snatch event, winning a silver medal. This marks her seventh medal at the World Championships across five tournaments.

During the competition, 30 world records were broken, making this the championship with the most records set in history. In total, athletes from 25 countries won medals in the combined scores, and 35 countries won medals in individual events.


North Korea (DPRK) topped the medal table with nine gold, five silver, and two bronze medals. China followed with four gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, while Kazakhstan claimed two gold and one silver, placing third.


The People's Republic of China led the men’s category, followed by Iran and North Korea. For the women's category, North Korea took first place, with China and Colombia ranking second and third, respectively.
