Ulaanbaatar, October 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 19th Asian Schools Chess Championships for students will commence on October 25, 2025, in the grand hall of the “Ulaanbaatar” Hotel.
More than 10 countries, including the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of India, and the People’s Republic of China, have registered participants. In addition, 65 chess players from the Russian Federation have arrived in Mongolia to compete. Since Russia joined the Asian Chess Federation in 2022, its players have been eligible to participate in the championship. The eight-day tournament will feature approximately 700 student chess players competing across age categories of 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 years old.
Regarding the tournament, FIDE representative and Grandmaster Enkhtul Altan-Ulzii said, “Students from 21 aimags of Mongolia will participate. The top three finishers will have the opportunity to earn the FIDE Master title, making this one of the highest-ranked competitions for youth chess players. Medalists will also gain direct qualification for the 2026 Asian Schools Chess Championship. Through this event, we will host over 2,000 people, including participants’ parents and guardians, which we believe will have a positive impact on Mongolia’s economy. In total, 500 Mongolian students and around 200 foreign participants have registered, with fewer foreign players due to weather conditions.”
The 19th Asian
Schools Chess Championships will officially open on October 25,
with the champions to be crowned on November 2, 2025.
