FIDE Candidate Master Mungunzul Bat-Erdene Among the Frontrunners at the Asian Individual Chess Championships

/MONTSAME/. The Asian Individual
Chess Championships are underway in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates, from May
6 to May 16, 2025.
In total, 262 players from 34 countries are participating in the Championships. Grandmaster Bardiya Daneshvar from Iran and Grandmaster Murali Karthikeyan from India are leading in the Men’s category. International Master Amartuvshin Ganzorig from Mongolia is occupying 51st place with 3.0 points, with Gan-Erdene Sugar following in 78th place with 2.5 points. In the Women’s category, Grandmaster Seshadri Srija of India, International Master Anastasia Bodnaruk of Russia, and FIDE Candidate Master of Mongolia Mungunzul Bat-Erdene are leading the Championship with 4.5 points each. Mungunzul won her first four games, but in the fifth match, she drew with Anastasia Bodnaruk. Moreover, Grandmaster Munguntuul Batkhuyag is in 9th place, and Candidate Master Bayasgalan Khishigbaatar is in 23rd place. The sixth round started on May 12, 2025.
Furthermore, the Asian Individual Blitz Chess Championships kicked off on May 11, 2025, with Bayasgalan Khishigbaatar defeating Grandmaster Kateryna Lagno in her
third match. In the Men’s Blitz category, International Master Amartuvshin
Ganzorig occupied the 42nd place. However, in the Women’s Blitz category, Candidate Master
Bayasgalan Khishigbaatar took the 6th place with 6.5 points,
Grandmaster Nomin-Erdene Davaademberel 14th, FIDE Candidate Master
Mungunzul Bat-Erdene 19th, Grandmaster Uurtsaikh Uuriintuya 26th, Candidate Master
Buyankhishig Batpelden 29th, FIDE Master Enkhrii Enkh-Amgalan 31st,
Candidate Master Emujin Enkh-Amgalan 33rd, Grandmaster Munguntuul
Batkhuyag 41th, and Munkhzul Turmunkh 49th places respectively.
Mongolian players have previously won two medals at the Championships, with T. Munkhzul earning the bronze in 2019, and B. Munguntuul also claiming the bronze medal in 2023.
