Ulaanbaatar, September 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The expansion and modernization of the Altanbulag Port in Selenge aimag, Mongolia’s northern border with Russia, will enable it to handle 1.5-2 million passengers and 600,000 to 800,000 vehicles annually. Previously, the port accommodated 600,000 to 900,000 passengers and 200,000 to 400,000 vehicles each year.

This construction serves as a compelling example of attracting investment through highly concessional loans from the Asian Development Bank, without placing a burden on the state budget, while directly contributing to economic growth.

Prime Minister of Mongolia, Zandanshatar Gombojav, attended the opening ceremony and emphasized that Altanbulag Port is expected to play a pivotal role in Mongolia’s access to the Eurasian market, which comprises 183 million people and a combined GDP of USD 2.4 trillion. It will contribute to the diversification of export types, support national economic growth, and make a significant advance in Mongolia’s position as a key player in regional transport and logistics.

At Altanbulag Port, a 1.7-kilometer four-lane road with a separation strip, a 7,000-square-meter parking lot, a 30,000-square-meter indoor area, and a comprehensive engineering network were commissioned at MNT 14.9 billion. Additionally, with financing of USD 7.8 million, internationally compliant port infrastructure and green facilities were brought into full operation. This included the construction of 19 passenger transport buildings, 18 cargo transport buildings, 5 infrastructure buildings, and 6,000 m2 of landscaped green space.
