L.Purevsuren FM holds official talks with John Kerry
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren held Sunday official talks with John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State who is on the official visit here.
In the beginning of the talks, the sides noted the active development of bilateral relations based on the comprehensive partnership relationship and regular frequency of high level visits. The parties exchanged views regarding the bilateral political, defense, economic, and regional and international partnership.
Minister L.Purevsuren noted the USA is a Mongolia’s important third neighbor and expressed gratitude for supporting Mongolia’s democratic transition since the beginning. While mentioning that bilateral political and defense relations have been actively developing, he emphasized that the trade and economic relations have been stagnating. Noting the partnership opportunities in the agricultural and renewable energy sectors, they exchanged views on intensifying the economic partnership.
The Minister highlighted that the Millennium Challenge Corporations first compact was important in building people-to-people ties and the decision to implement a second compact in Mongolia would have positive and important effects on Mongolia’s development and the livelihood of Mongolia’s citizens. He also proposed to the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to work towards facilitating the ease of travel for our citizens.
The U.S Secretary of State John Kerry emphasized and complimented Mongolia’s achievements in not only building a democracy in a peaceful manner but in becoming a democratic role model for many countries around the world. He expressed pleasure in being able to implement a second compact through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and expressed confidence that the implemented program will have an important impact on Mongolia’s economic development and livelihood of its citizens. He also noted that concrete steps must be taken to intensify the bilateral economic relationship.
