U.S. Embassy celebrates 70th anniversary of Fulbright program
Society | EducationUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Last Monday, U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Zimdahl Galt hosted a reception at her residence to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright exchange program. This information was published in an official website of US Embassy.
Founded in 1946 by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright, the Fulbright program was established to promote peace and enhance mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. The Fulbright program is the U.S. Government’s flagship academic exchange program that awards nearly 8,000 fellowships annually in over 160 countries.
The Fulbright Program was launched in Mongolia in 1994. Every year, nearly 40 scholars, students, researchers, and professionals travel between the U.S. and Mongolia to work in areas ranging from health to IT. The Government of Mongolia and the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State initiated bi-national funding of the Fulbright Student Fellowship Program in 2010. Thanks to the Government of Mongolia’s support, up to ten additional Mongolian grantees get the opportunity to study in the U.S. on the Fulbright program every year—more than double the number of scholarships that were available prior to the establishment of this valuable partnership.
Celebrating the occasion with honorable guests and Fulbright alumni, Ambassador Galt highlighted in her remarks the contribution of the Fulbright Mongolia program in advancing Mongolia’s democracy and economic reforms over the past 23 years.
Among those in attendance were representatives of Mongolian Parliament and various Ministries, Fulbright Mongolia alumni, and current American Fulbright participants.
One current U.S. Fulbright Researcher and one Mongolian alumnus of the Fulbright Student Fellowship Program also shared with the other guests the powerful impact the Fulbright program has had on their lives and their work.
