Mongol Daguur specially protected area may be listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ 2017 meeting of a working group of the Dauria International Protected Area (DIPA) was held on May 4-5 in Choibalsan city of Dornod aimag, where the Mongol Daguur or Dauria the steppe and wetland region of Mongolia is located. 

The meeting touched on the registration process of the Mongol Daguur Strictly Protected Area to the UNESCO World Heritage site and further policies to adhere to and reports of studies and promotion works concerning the region completed by the DIPA in 2016 as well as works planned this year and other issues. Officers of the departments in charge of specially protected areas of Mongolia and representatives of Daursky Nature Reserve of Russia and Dalai Lake National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia, China.

About 13 surveys and studies about Mongolian marmot, migratory and water birds, mammals, gazelles and plants will be performed jointly or independently in the scope of the DIPA’s activities in 2017, the meeting concludes.  
 
Vadim Kiriliuk, Head of the Daursky Nature Reserve of Russia said "We will organize the next meeting of DIPA in 2018 marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Daursky State Nature Reserve of Russia”.
