Sustainable Tourism Development Project implementation discussed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During the 6th meeting of the Steering Committee of
the Sustainable Tourism Development Project being financed by the Asian
Development Bank, the progress and implementation of the works carried out in
2021 were introduced.
Specifically, the works such as eco-tourism planning,
the blueprint for the road to be constructed in the framework of the Khuvsgul
subproject, solid waste landfill facilities to be built in Khatgal, Khankh and
Dadal soums, wastewater treatment plant, and progress of the general plan for
development of Khank soum were presented.
The Government has defined the tourism industry as an economic priority sector, and is implementing Sustainable Tourism Development Project with intends to develop Khuvsgul as a natural tourism region and Khentii aimag as a historical tourism region.
As a result of the implementation of the project, the national model for sustainable tourism will be created at Khuvsgul lake and Onon-Balj National Park and local issues related to environment protection, tourism, and economy will be addressed comprehensively.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the
Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of
Construction and Urban Development, the Ministry of Energy, ADB and civil society.
