Prime Minister holds official talks with his Singaporean counterpart

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On July 8, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene held official talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.


The parties exchanged their views on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Mongolia and Singapore, defining the prospects of cooperation, and wide-ranging issues in international and regional contexts.


This is a visit by the Prime Minister of Mongolia to Singapore after 11 years. This time, the Prime Minister arrived in Singapore to ensure the implementation of the issues agreed upon during his visit to Singapore in 2019 in his capacity as the Chief of Cabinet Secretariat.



In Mongolia's foreign policy aimed at the Asia-Pacific region, relations and cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia occupy an important position. In this regard, the visit is important for activating political dialogue with Singapore at all levels, expanding the scope of cooperation, and deepening cooperation in the regional and international arena.


During their meeting, the Prime Ministers exchanged views on cooperation in the directions such as introducing Singapore's good practices in Mongolia, making reforms to civil service based on the digital transition, improving digital governance, strengthening the communications sector, and ensuring cyber security.


Within the framework of his 3-day visit, the Mongolian Prime Minister visited the headquarters of Temasek Foundation, Singapore Central Provident Fund, and Housing and Development Board alongside holding a meeting with the country’s Minister of Communications and Information to cooperate in the spheres mentioned above.



The following cooperation documents have been signed during the visit:


-A Memorandum of Understanding on “Providing support in establishing Savings’ Fund system in Mongolia’ between the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Mongolia and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise;


-A Memorandum of Understanding on the ‘Public Housing Program’ between the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise;


-A Memorandum of Understanding on implementing the project, ‘Civil service reforms based on digital transition’ between the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia and the National University of Singapore.


Moreover, a willingness was expressed during the visit to cooperate with the relevant Singaporean organizations to improve the governance of state-owned enterprises, bringing them in line with international standards, and to receive technical advice.



In connection with the Government of Mongolia’s goal of making Mongolia’s new airport a regional transport and logistics hub and establishing a new city and free economic zone in Khushig Valley, proposals were put forth to work together to create a transit hub for Mongolia, introduce Singapore's best practices in order to attract tourism, and create a legal environment that is necessary to attract international and Singaporean investment.


With the support of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and the Temasek Foundation, the training and programs for the professional development of our civil servants, and strengthening the capacity of human resources. The sides have agreed to further expand this traditional cooperation.
