Government of Mongolia to Support Educational Institutions Abroad to Promote Mongolian Language and Culture

Ulaanbaatar, June 12, 2024 /MONTSAME/. A
total of 59 Mongolian language and culture centers, established through
public initiatives, operate in 16 countries, including Germany, the United
States, Canada, Switzerland, and the Republic of Korea. These centers, ranging
from schools and kindergartens to cultural centers and summer camps, provide
training in Mongolian language, history, music, dance, and chess to over six
thousand children.
To assist operations of educational institutions to disseminate and promote the Mongolian language and culture abroad the Government of Mongolia has approved a Regulation for Providing Government Support to Educational and Lifelong Learning Institutions Operating Abroad. The funding for the support will be secured within the 2024 budget allocation and the necessary funding will be reflected in the annual State Budget.
The General Law on Education of Mongolia states,
“A lifelong learning center can be established in foreign countries with the
purposes of learning, inheriting, and disseminating the Mongolian language,
literacy, customs, and historical and cultural traditions, organizing
retraining courses, and supporting the development of Mongolian people. The
Government can provide support to educational institutions and lifelong
education institutions that are implementing projects and programs to educate children
with Mongolian nationality living abroad on basic skills of Mongolian language,
history, customs, and culture and the conditions, criteria, and amount of the support
shall be regulated by a regulation approved by the Government.”
The Regulation enforcement will leverage Mongolian children
living abroad to learn, inherit, and spread the Mongolian language, customs,
and historical and cultural traditions. Also, it will be a significant step
towards fostering the development of Mongolian people abroad, ensuring the
implementation of legislation on education, and supporting the goals and
objectives outlined in Mongolia’s long and medium-term development policies.
