Ulaanbaatar, December 22, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Munkhtamir Batbayar, stated that Mongolia will provide scholarships to support students studying water-related disciplines, emphasizing the need to train water specialists. This profession is becoming increasingly scarce in the country.

During his visit to the Water Agency, Head of the Agency, Batbayar Zeneemyadar, introduced the objectives of the “One Soum – One Lake" or "333 Lakes”. He outlined opportunities to promote socio-economic development, environmental protection, and human rights through improved water management, particularly by accumulating water resources, constructing ponds, and restoring lakes.

He further noted that Ganga, Ugii, and Ereen Lakes are being restored in 2025, with plans to expand these efforts into an international model project dubbed the Mongolian Model for Lake Conservation.” The initiative incorporates comprehensive measures to protect lakes from sand encroachment and waste pollution, as well as to conserve their source tributary rivers.

Deputy Minister Munkhtamir stressed the importance of prioritizing the training of water specialists by increasing student enrollment in the field, providing scholarships, and ensuring broad public participation in addressing sectoral challenges. He also expressed readiness to pursue coordinated and collaborative efforts at the policy level.
