The Asia Foundation co-hosts the expert workshop on gender mainstreaming in financial sector
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The Asia Foundation Mongolia, through
its Women’s Economic Empowerment Project in Mongolia supported by the
Government of Canada through Canadas’ Foreign Policy-Global Affairs Canada,
co-hosted the Expert Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in the Financial Sector
as part of the Mongolian Sustainable Finance Forum on November 17, 2021, in
partnership with the Mongolian Sustainable Finance Association.
Mark Koenig, the Country Representative of the Foundation,
delivered opening remarks to the audience, including National Committee on
Gender Equality, Bank of Mongolia, Financial Regulatory Committee, United
Nation`s Development Programme, European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development, United Nations Children's Fund, Civil Society Organizations,
Golomt Bank, Trade and Development Bank, Khan Bank, Transbank, and women
entrepreneurs. Tricia Turbold, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs of the
Foundation, participated in the panel discussion exploring gender inclusiveness
in the Mongolian financial sector and stressed the importance of supporting
women operating MSMEs in the informal sector.
The workshop’s main goal was to address the critical issue
of gender equality and human rights in Mongolia’s financial sector. Following
the panel, roundtable discussions took place, and participants discussed gaps
and identified potential solutions to promote gender mainstreaming in
Mongolia’s financial sector.
The Foundation’s Women`s Economic Empowerment project was
proud to support the workshop and efforts to improve access to finance for
women entrepreneurs, as it is the biggest challenge for micro and small-scale
women-owned enterprises in Mongolia.
