Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. As part of ‘Mining Week’ activities, the ‘Mongolia
Mining 2022’ international mining and oil exhibition was opened yesterday,
September 21, in the ‘Steppe Arena’.
At the opening ceremony, the President of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry O.Amartuvshin said, "The economy of Mongolia is not recovering well due to the difficulties caused by the international situation and the pandemic in the last 2 years. The share of the mining sector in GDP decreased to 9 percent. Within the framework of its New Revival Policy, the government intends to implement a major project under public-private partnership. The source of investment is foreign, and the mining is an important part of it. At such a critical time, it is significant to organize many activities within the framework of the Mining Week”.
The CEO of Minex Mongolia T.Battulga said that the mining industry accounts for 15 percent of GDP, more than 90 percent of total exports, and more than 70 percent of foreign investment in the last 5 years.
Australian Ambassador to Mongolia Katie Smith noted the importance of cooperation in the development of the mining sector. She said, "Stable cooperation needs to be developed between Australia and Mongolia. Australia still considers the mining sector to be of high importance. Mongolia is working together to overcome difficulties and organize many activities in this sector. For the development of the mining industry, it is important to develop accountable mining without negative impact on the environment, and to set high standards in mining.”
The exhibition, which brings together the best companies in Mongolia's mining industry, is being organized for the 11th year. At the largest exhibition of mining equipment and machinery suppliers, the latest solutions of the industry were brought into one place, providing a good opportunity to learn mutual experience and establish business ties. For this year, largest excavators, the flagship products of Komatsu’s factory in Germany, including the Komatsu PC3000 model and the brand new Komatsu HD465 dump truck, are being placed outside the exhibition hall. Particularly, self-unloaders with a capacity of 60-95 tons, container lifters with a capacity of 45 tons, and underground mining equipment have been shown to visitors.
E. Ochirsuren, engineer from the Forest Genetic Resources Center of the Erdenet Mining Corporation, said, “As part of the ‘One Billion Trees’ program initiated by the President, a green development project unit was established at Erdenet Mining Corporation. The Forest Genetic Resources Center was established with a purpose to plant and grow 100 million trees. The center has two types of storage with a capacity of 1000 tons for the preparation, collection, storage and distribution of seeds, seedlings and seedlings of woody and herbaceous plants. There are seeds of all kinds of woody plants that grow in Mongolia. As the first sample, 600kg of seeds were produced, 161 kg of which have been used for sowing this spring. The center is participating in the exhibition to offer seeds to mining companies, establish contacts, and give professional and methodological advices. We will soon establish a soil biotechnology factory and a tree nursery on 100 hectares of land and introduce automatic technology capable of planting 12 million trees per year."
The exhibition will be open until tomorrow, September 23.
