Ulaanbaatar, March 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The artists from the State Opera and Ballet Academic Theatre of Mongolia (SOBAT) will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Swan Lake” on March 8-9, 2025.

This ballet was first staged in Mongolia on June 28, 1975, under the choreography of Ballet Master and Hero of Labor of Mongolia B. Jamyandagva, with musical direction by People’s Artist of Mongolia J. Chuluun and stage design by People’s Painter of Mongolia Ch. Gungaasukh.

Tchaikovsky originally composed this work as a one-act piece titled “Ozera Lebedei” (Swan Lake) for the children of his cousin David. However, this ballet went on to earn not only the appreciation of children but also the admiration and reverence of classical art audiences, becoming a world-renowned masterpiece. For 49 years, SOBAT has continuously brought this exceptional work to Mongolian audiences.

For the upcoming production of “Swan Lake”, the role of the court jester will be performed by Huang Shaoshuai, a principal dancer from the Moravian Theatre Ballet in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Throughout his career, he has portrayed leading roles in more than 30 ballets, including “Carmen,” “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker,” “Giselle,” and “Don Quixote.”
