Establishing a Cooperation Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Northeast Asia Discussed

On the sidelines of the biennial Ministerial Conference, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan and Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Kamal Kishore held an official meeting. During the meeting, Mr. Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan reported on the Government’s activities in implementing the “Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030,” and the two sides exchanged views on collaborating with countries in the Asia-Pacific region and international organizations in this sector. Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan extended an invitation to Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Kamal Kishore to participate in the Subregional Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in 2025 in Mongolia.
Mr. Kamal Kishore expressed the UN’s commitment to supporting activities and policies implemented by the Government of Mongolia to overcome the challenges caused by climate change, harsh winters, and dry summers and minimize potential damages.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the establishment of a cooperation platform focused on Northeast Asia and noted the progress in creating a Regional Center for Rapid Disaster Management in collaboration with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
