Two Mongolian Localities Join UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities

Ulaanbaatar, December 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Bayangol district of Ulaanbaatar city and Bayan-Undur soum of Orkhon aimag have been officially admitted to the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
This
marks Mongolia’s first inclusion in the network, which now brings together 498
cities worldwide that demonstrate global leadership in promoting lifelong
learning and ensuring equitable, accessible learning opportunities for all
citizens. Membership opens a new phase of international cooperation for
Mongolia in fostering a culture of lifelong learning, expanding access to
education, and advancing knowledge-based urban development policies.
Becoming
a learning city reflects the joint efforts of local authorities, educational
institutions, citizens, the private sector, and all stakeholders engaged in
local development. It represents the beginning of comprehensive policies aimed
at building a learning ecosystem that supports continuous personal and
community development.
Established
in 2013 at the initiative of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the
Global Network of Learning Cities currently includes 498 cities across 91
countries. In 2025, a total of 72 cities from 46 countries joined the network,
including 13 that were recognized as learning cities for the first time.
