Mongolia, South Korea Celebrate 35 Years of Diplomacy

Ulaanbaatar, December 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Embassy of Mongolia in the
Republic of Korea has organized a ceremony commemorating the 35th anniversary
of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador
Sukhbold Sukhee highlighted that the celebration coincides with the 863rd
anniversary of the birth of Chinggis Khaan and Mongolia Pride Day. He recalled
that historical records show exchanges between the Khitan and Goryeo states as
early as 995, noting that in 1219, during the era of Chinggis Khaan, the two
sides pledged a bond of friendship, vowing, “Let our two nations remain
brothers forever and let no generation forget this day.”
The Ambassador underscored that, based on the two countries’ Strategic Partnership, more than 100 flights operate weekly between the two sides; bilateral trade has reached USD 670 million; over 17,000 Mongolian students are studying in the Republic of Korea; and approximately 150,000 people travel between the two countries annually. The Ambassador also highlighted joint initiatives such as the Green Wall Project, Rare Earth Elements cooperation, the National Diagnostic and Treatment Center, and the Women’s Leadership in Decision-Making Program, as well as expanding collaboration in rare metals, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulatory messages were delivered by Senior Advisor to the President of Mongolia, Khurelbaatar Nyamdavaa, and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Lee Jaewoong. Member of the National Assembly and Chair of the Korea-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Jin Sungjoong, also attended and offered his greetings.
At the ceremony, Mongolia’s Hero of Labor and People’s Artist Dolgor Ayurzana, Honored Artist Gombo-Ochir Byambajav, opera singer Ahn Ju-eun, Sejong Theater opera performers Yoo Hyun-wook and Joo Hyun-ae, and the “ANU Music” children’s violin ensemble presented musical performances. Artists Ts. Ulziikhutag and N. Ganzorig showcased a combined morin khuur and calligraphy performance, promoting Mongolia’s culture and arts.

A photo exhibition dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was also opened on this occasion. More than 450 guests and representatives, including officials from host-country government institutions, foreign diplomatic missions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, attended the event.
