Autumn Meeting of OSCE PA opens

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Autumn session of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly kicked off Wednesday in the State House with a participation of representatives of the legislative bodies of the OSCE Participating States and international organizations.

The OSCE President Mr Ilkka Kanerva made the opening remarks, saying that the two-day session will discuss security challenges at the OSCE regional and international levels as well as parliamentarians’ role in strengthening the regional cooperation. Issues regarding environment, water, foods and overcoming climate change will also be discussed, he added.

It is possible that several members of the OSCE will establish the Representative Offices in their countries, Mr Kanerva noted and emphasized an importance of opening such Representative Offices in many other countries. He mentioned that the OSCE PA Autumn Session has brought together also delegates from the United Nations (UN) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and wished the gathered big success.

These remarks were followed by a speech of Mr Z.Enkhbold, the Speaker of parliament. He noted that Mongolia become a Participating State of the OSCE in 2012, and underlined that such a  membership was provided with big opportunities to fortify our multi-lateral foreign policy, to cooperate with the OSCE Participating States in security issues, to share information and experiences, and to regularly attend talks. He emphasized that the OSCE has become a vital body for ensuring global and regional security. Mr Enkhbold also said that the democratic parliament has already been established in Mongolia. 

He said this year’s autumn session has gathered some 300 delegates from 47 countries, 19 officials from 13 international organizations, and thanked all of them for taking part in the session.
