Nearly 500 candidates to run for parliamentary elections

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head of the General Election Commission (GEC) Ch.Sodnomtseren reported Tuesday that 498 candidates will compete in the forthcoming parliamentary elections which is scheduled on June 29.

The Democratic Party (DP) and the Mongolian People’s Party will run for the elections with the largest number of candidates each (76), while the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) will compete in 71 constituencies.

Furthermore, the “Sovereignty and Unity” coalition of the Sovereignty and Unity Party and the Mongolian Green Party will compete for 44 parliamentary seats; the Republican Party (RP) nominated 36 candidates; the Civil Movement Party (CMP)--27 candidates; the Mongolian Social Democratic Party (MSDP)--17 candidates; the Civil-Will Green Party--15 candidates; the Mongolian Conservative Party (MCP) and the “Cherish the People” Party--13 candidates each; the Mongolian Conservative United Party (MCUP)--11 candidates; the “Khaan Choice” coalition of the Development Party and the Mongolian Liberal Party (MLP), “Freedom Exercising" Party and the Unified Coalition of Patriots of the United Party of Patriots and the Labor Party of Pan-Mongolia--nine candidates each. The Democratic Movement Party (DMP) will participate in the election with the least number of candidates (3).

Apart from the candidates from the political parties and coalitions, 69 independent candidates will stand for the elections.

Statistical data from the GEC shows that 25.9% of the candidates are women. Most of the candidates (283) are nominated in the capital’s constituencies.
