17th meeting of Joint Commission between Mongolia and EU takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 17th Joint Committee Meeting between Mongolia and the European Union took place on March 30-31 in Ulaanbaatar. The meeting was co-chaired by Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Minister of Foreign Affairs from Mongolian side and Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, European External Action Service Brussels from the EU. The sides discussed issues concerning bilateral ties and cooperation as well as matters concerning regional and international relations.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the importance of the effective implementation of the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between Mongolia and the European Union and EU once it enters into force and future cooperation plans for development, as well as measures with views to increase bilateral trade and investment.  

In the scope of the meeting, several side meetings were held, including human rights dialogue between Mongolia and EU, and meetings of subcommittee on trade and investment and of working group on the development cooperation.

This time meeting was important by launching the dialogue on human rights issues. On the discussion of human rights dialogue, each side reported about their priority directions put forward within the United Nations and UN Human Rights Council and discussed opportunities of Mongolian-EU cooperation in the multilateral arena.

The Mongolian side expressed its willingness to effectively put international agreements on human right issues into practice and expand cooperation with the EU on coordinating them with laws and legislations of Mongolia.

At the discussion of the subcommittee on trade and investment, the sides exchanged information about the present situation of each of their trade and investment environment. Moreover, the participants talked about possibilities to intensify economic cooperation between Mongolia and EU, in particular, productive ways to use trade facilitation tariffs of the EU.

During the meeting of the working group on development cooperation, the parties exchanged views on current issues of the development cooperation between Mongolia and EU, the implementation process of ongoing projects and programs and effective utilization of remaining capitals.

The 17th meeting of Joint Commission concluded with a joint statement on the meetings of subcommittees.
