President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visiting Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 1, D.Regdel, Academician and President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) received delegates led by Bai Chunli, professor and President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), who are on a visit to Mongolia. At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the scientific and technological cooperation between Mongolia and China.

Academician D.Regdel said that the bilateral scientific collaboration has been being developed since 1991 and in 1999, a memorandum of cooperation was re-established. As a result of the cooperation, the CAS has made a substantial investment in Mongolia, particularly, supplied 100 thousand boxes and containers to store herbarium of the Institute of Botany of the MAS. The Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the MAS and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the CAS have been collaborating actively in recent years. 

Prof. Bai Chunli expressed his belief that the two sides will intensify bilateral cooperation further and that more accomplishments will be made in the science sector. He then pledged to cooperate with Mongolia by conducting field research of Mongolian and Chinese scientists and joint study on the Economic Corridor program of Mongolia, China and Russia and launching detailed chemical and geographic studies on desertification, soil erosion, sharing experiences of human resources and training Mongolian specialists in China.
 
Mongolia and China have been collaborating within the memorandum and protocol of cooperation. At the end of the visit, the memorandum of cooperation is expected to be re-established. Moreover, Bai Chunli, President of the CAS will give a lecture under the theme “Chinese innovation of science and technology” at the Tuushin Hotel in Ulaanbaatar on May 2, tomorrow. 

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations and cooperation agreement between Mongolia and China and within the Year of Friendly Exchanges between Mongolia, joint academic conferences were held in 2014 and an international forum of Silk Road with participation of Mongolia, China and Russia has been organized.
