Consultative meeting focuses on foreign projects

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry organized a consultative meeting themed ‘Cooperation Policy and Its Directions’ in collaboration with the Finance Ministry, the National Development Department and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, on October 31.

"About 54 per cent of the total employed people is working in the fields of food, agriculture, and light industry, accounting for 31.2 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product. Completed and ongoing projects and programs with international assistance and cooperation have contributed and positively influenced to achievements of these sector and overcoming difficulties. However, some projects had less productivity, just leaving hundreds of pages of reports. Therefore foreign invested projects will be coordinated so that projects could bring actual benefits to the development of the sectors, and they will be targeted to support production, investment, introducing advanced technologies and good practices," Minister B.Batzorig said.

Ten projects worth of USD136.4 million with funding from partner countries and international organizations were implemented in 1991-2017 in food, agriculture, and light industry sector, plus two projects of USD46.8 million for rural development and 13 projects of USD152.4 million--in industry and trade field.

The Embassies of Russia, France, German, Canada, Czech and international organizations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, JICA, KOICA, and TICA, Mercy Corps, ADRA and World Vision took part in the consultative meeting.
