Mongolia’s actions on climate change highly appreciated

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A meeting was held today to determine Mongolia's intended contribution to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. During the meeting, it highlighted that the UN highly appreciated Mongolia’s actions regarding climate change.

Mongolia joined the Paris Climate Partnership Agreement two years ago and started running active operation. The country has accomplished over 70 percent of its overall goal to reduce greenhouse gas by 14 percent.  

"I am pleased to inform that the UN highly appreciated Mongolia’s actions taking for climate change, which were considered as best example of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Green Climate Fund. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced and resilience to climate change will be improved. Moreover, conditions will be created to receive financial assistance from developing countries," noted Kh.Batjargal, Head of Climate Change and Foreign Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

Mongolia is implementing a project on water accumulation, mechanism in water reuse and permanent irrigation system to combating climate change. By operating solar, hydro and wind power plants, it started supplying energy to central energy system and some power plants will be operated soon.

Participants of the meeting highlighted that using renewable energy is great achievement for Mongolia.
