State Secretary D.Davaasuren meets Secretary for Relations of the Holy See

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ D. Davaasuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who was attending the 25th OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Milan, Italy met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See’s Secretariat of State, on December 6.


At the meeting, State Secretary D.Davaasuren expressed an interest to co-organize an exhibition on historical and memorial documents within the framework of expanding bilateral cooperation in culture and education and invited a representative from Vatican for ‘Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace’ to be held in Ulaanbaatar next June.

In turn, Paul Richard Gallagher mentioned his satisfaction with developing relations and cooperation of the two countries, highly appraised Mongolia’s efforts to strengthen international peace and solidarity and pledged to work for sending the country’s representative to the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace.


Mongolia and the Holy See established the diplomatic relations on April 4, 1992. The Vatican’s side handed over a copy of the Pope Innocent IV’s letter sent to Mongolian Khaan Guyeg and a copy of the letter of Khaan Guyeg sent to Pope Innocent IV to Mongolian side in 2017 and 2018 respectively. They are now being preserved at the Museum of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kharkhorum Museum of Uvurkhangai aimag.
