Zavkhan /MONTSAME/ Governor’s Office of Durvuljin soum of Zavkhan aimag thinned two hectares of ‘Khar but’ wild sea buckthorn forest. The area was allocated to five community groups for protection, re-cultivation and utilization of the sea buckthorn forest.

Based on the forest, ‘Khomyn talyn takhi’ NGO built a sea buckthorn processing factory with its own funds. As a result, employment in the soum has increased and it is possible to produce value added products. Currently, the factory produces over 100 bottle of concentrated sea buckthorn juice daily.

In addition, Durvuljin soum is pursuing an agricultural policy to sell livestock raw materials in the market at higher price this year. In order to protect natural resources and to increase market value of the products, the Governor’s Office of the soum is cooperating with the UN Land Degradation Offset and Mitigation in Western Mongolia project, World Wildlife Fund and  ‘Khomyn talyn takhi’ NGO.
