Research ‘Support for Household Adaptation to Climate Change in Mongolia’ to be conducted

On October 28, A.Ariunzaya, Chairperson of the National Statistics Office of
Mongolia and other relevant officials met with Dr. Kati Krahnert, working group
leader at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.
During the meeting, the sides discussed in detail about phases
and contract of implementing research project ‘Support for Household Adaptation
to Climate Change,’ which aims to analyze the impact of severe weather on livelihoods
of Mongolian households, specifically herding households and evaluate how they are
supported to adapt to climate change and avoid from the consequence of severe
climate phenomena.
In 2012-2015, the National Statistics Office co-implemented
the Household Panel Study with the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW
Berlin) with the funding of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The
survey involved 1768 households of three western provinces, namely Gobi-Altai, Zavkhan
and Uvs. As 4 and 5th phase of the study, the research ‘Support for
Household Adaptation to Climate Change’ will be jointly implemented with the
Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research of Germany in 2019-2021.
