Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Human Development Committee of the Citizens' Representative Khural heard and exchanged views on the report of the activities of the Tourism Department of the capital city, the works planned for this year, and the tourism sector’s current situation.

The number of tourists visiting Mongolia has increased by about 10 percent a year since 2016 but decreased by 94 percent in the last two years due to the global pandemic. In addition, Tourism Department Head D.Batsukh presented statistics that 33,455 tourists visited Mongolia last year, of whom 27,487 passed through Ulaanbaatar city.

It was also presented that the works are planned to be carried out by the Tourism Department with an aim to accelerate domestic tourism development, such as launching ‘Ulaanbaatar brand’ or more than 200 products of four types to market, developing tourism based on historical and cultural venues, as well as building complex and tourist streets that meet international standards. Moreover, the meeting touched on attaching special importance to the development of domestic tourism, improving liaison between the relevant organizations, developing urban tourism and the Terelj area, and developing virtual tours.
