Grandmaster Munkhzul Secures 13th Place in Rapid and 20th in Blitz

Ulaanbaatar, January 2, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 2024 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships, organized by the International Chess Federation, concluded in New York City, USA.


The Championship featuring a prize fund of USD 1.42 million, included 13 rounds of blitz and 11 rounds of rapid games. Eight players from Mongolia competed in the event, with Grandmaster Munkhzul Turmunkh achieving the highest result among the Mongolian players. She secured 20th place in the blitz category with seven points.


In the Women’s Blitz, Candidate Master B. Mungunzul scored 6.5 points and placed 28th, Grandmaster B. Munguntuul scored 5.5 points and ranked 62nd, International Master D. Munkhzul scored 5.0 points for 73rd place, and Grandmaster U. Uuriintuya finished 90th with 4.0 points.


In the Men's Blitz, Grandmaster D. Batsuren scored 6.0 points for 117th place, International Master S. Gan-Erdene scored 5.5 points to rank 133rd, and G. Amartuvshin finished in 173rd place with 4.0 points.


In Women's Rapid, Grandmaster T. Munkhzul excelled, finishing in 13th place with 7 points. Grandmaster U. Uurintuya placed 44th, Candidate Master B. Mungunzul ranked 55th, Grandmaster B. Munguntuul came in 68th, and International Master D. Munkhzul finished 81st.


In the Men's Rapid, International Master S. Gan-Erdene placed 88th, G. Amartuvshin ranked 127th, and Grandmaster D. Batsuren finished in 147th place.


Notably, Grandmaster Munkhzul Turmunkh achieved a historic result for Mongolia by placing 4th at last year’s World Championships.
