Successful Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Performed on a Patient with Rare Condition

Ulaanbaatar, April 17, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A medical team from the General Hospital of Khan-Uul District in Ulaanbaatar City has successfully removed the gallbladder of a patient with a rare condition known as Situs Inversus Totalis using laparoscopic surgery. The procedure was led by Counseling Doctor of the Hospital B. Altangerel, with the surgical team consisting of B. Sumiya, J. Otgonbayar, B. Tuvshinbayar, B. Jardenbek, Sh. Azzaya, S. Tseesuren, and D. Erdenesuren. The patient's gallbladder, affected by this rare anatomical variation, was removed using laparoscopic techniques. The operation, which required specialized technology tailored to this unique condition, was completed in just over an hour. Situs inversus totalis condition occurs to 0.01 percent of the population or once in every 10.000 people, which is the direct result of a condition called autosomal recessive disorder. In this case, all the internals on the left side of a normal person are found on the right side and vica versa.
