PM, Speaker Pay Respects to Statue of General Sukhbaatar

February 3, 2026 /MONTSAME/. February 2 marks the 133rd anniversary of the
birth of the great general and statesman Sukhbaatar Damdin.
On the occasion
of his birthday, the Speaker of the State Great Khural and Chairman of the
Mongolian People’s Party Uchral Nyam-Osor, Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav,
along with other state and public figures, paid tribute and laid wreaths at the
statue of General Sukhbaatar. General Sukhbaatar was born on February 2, 1893,
in Amgalanbaatar to the poor family of Damdin. From a young age, he endured a
difficult life and learned to read and write at the age of 15. In 1911, he
joined the military, served as commander of a machine-gun unit, and took part
in the struggle to liberate his homeland from foreign aggression, for which he
was awarded the title of Hero.
In 1921, Sukhbaatar led the People’s Revolution and fought for Mongolia’s independence, becoming Minister of Military Affairs of the People’s Government and Commander-in-Chief of all armed forces. He was held in high esteem among the Mongolian people and was one of the first leaders of the People’s Revolution. In recognition of his merits, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of the USSR in 1922 and granted the title of Brave Hero Beis of Mongolia. Many institutions, streets, and squares have been named after him, immortalizing his legacy.
