FM at General Policy Debate of UNESCO General Conference
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and chairman of the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO L.Purevsuren delivered a speech at the General Policy debate of the UNESCO General Conference which kicked off Wednesday in Paris, France.
The FM evaluated both the 70-year actions of the UNESCO and its ties and cooperation with Mongolia, and expressed his position on the UNESCO’s policy and further directions in education, culture, sciences, communications and information. He also spoke about a participation of the Mongolian government in the UNESCO policy.
Coincided with the 70th anniversary of the UNESCO, the 38th General Conference of the UNESCO will continue until November 18. It will discuss the 2013-2015 action report of the UNESCO Director-General and will approve the draft 2015-2017 budget of the UNESCO. Moreover, elections are supposed to run of the UNESCO Executive Council, Committee of World Heritage, intergovernmental committees, councils and bureaus.
The UNESCO General Conference consists of the representatives of the states-members of the Organization. It meets every two years, and is attended by the member and associate members, together with observers for non-member states, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Each country has one vote, irrespective of its size or the extent of its contribution to the budget.
The General Conference determines policies and main lines of work of the Organization. Its duty is to set the programmes and the budget of UNESCO. It also elects members of the Executive Board and appoints, every four years, a Director-General. The working languages of the General Conference are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
