Mongolia to welcome about 20 million newborn cattle this year
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In of 2016, 2.8 thous.mother livestock gave offspring so far, 96 percent of which are in good condition, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture reported Friday.
Mongolia counted a total of 23.8 million mother livestock by the beginning of this year, including 105.2 thousand camels, 952.5 thousand mares, 1.4 million cows, 10.6 million ewes, and 9.6 does. On multiyear average, 80 percent of mother animals give newborns. According to this estimation, the number of newborn livestock is expected to reach 18-20 million.
On the contrary, a number of livestock lost this year reached 681.1 thousand, increasing 130.0 thousand over the last week. Among the lost animals were 222 camels, 25.2 thousand horses, 65.2 thousand cows, 237.0 thousand sheep and 353.5 thousand goats.
Sukhbaatar aimag is the region where the largest number of animals were scattered, having lost 115,173 livestock, followed by Uvs (101,021), Arkhangai (68,989), Zavkhan (67,531) and Bayankhongor (63,121) aimags.
