EBRD to implement solid waste modernization project in UB

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is going to implement ‘Ulaanbaatar Solid Waste Modernization’ project. A EBRD working group to implement the project has completed the project development, conducting studies on current condition of waste management of Ulaanbaatar. Today Governor of the capital and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city S.Batbold received EBRD First Vice President Philip Bennett and other officials.

The project is designed to expand Ulaanbaatar city's land filling capacity and build a Construction and Demolition Waste plant, with objective to help Ulaanbaatar residents to avoid environmental pollution related to the lack of land filling capacity and to introduce proper management practices in relation to construction waste. Mr.Philip Bennett said that the bank is currently working on the project agreements of loan and grant aid to be established with Ulaanbaatar administration.

Mayor S.Batbold expressed his pleasure for implementing the project with EBRD and his hope for that, Ulaanbaatar city residents would benefit the result of the project soon. “We are at the final stage of the project development - signing on financial agreements. It will be first direct lending from EBRD to local administration. After completion of this project, more projects will be implemented in the capital, targeted to air pollution reduction and new advanced technology introduction to public transportation service”.
