Mongolian and Russian journalists gather

On the 16th of May the first forum of Mongolian and Russian journalists was held in Ulaanbaatar with participation of about 60 journalists of the two countries to seek ways of forwarding bilateral cooperation in the media sector. The event was the first of its kind after bilateral cooperation in the information sphere has recessed to almost zero level from the 1990s.

On the sidelines of the forum co-organized by the Foreign Ministry of Mongolia, the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists and the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, staged were a photo exhibition about Mongolia and news products of the MONTSAME News Agency.

Political and economic situations and changes in mentality and attitudes of people were the main factors which had led to the recession of the Mongolia-Russia cooperation in the information sphere, highlighted Mr B.Galaarid, President of the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists and he added that despite declining number of Russian-speaking Mongolians, the Russian language keeps enjoying popularity among Mongolian young people.

He said that journalists of both countries have to make efforts to correct the situation noting that Mongolian and Russian mass media have a great opportunity for cooperation and implementation joint projects. The participants agreed to mobilize all opportunities and combine endeavors to move forward the traditional cooperation in media sphere.
