Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The national conference on “Food supply and security - Livestock farming” was organized today under the auspices of the President of Mongolia at the State Palace.

In his opening remarks, the President of Mongolia, U. Khurelsukh, said, “We, Mongolians should prosper based on our natural wealth and resources. The livestock is our people’s precious jewel and national treasure. This sector constitutes 15 percent of our country’s total economy, one out of every five people who have officially employed works in the livestock sector, and it has created a wealth of MNT 7.2 trillion in 2021.

The number and heads of livestock have increased significantly. Herders’ income, livelihood, and social security have improved to a certain extent. Still, farmers and the livestock industry face many challenges and difficulties, such as 65 percent of all livestock pastures have deteriorated, and about 77 percent of the land has been deserted. There has been an increase in the migration of people from rural areas to urban areas.
