Ulaanbaatar, January 26, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Government and private sector organizations are taking preventive measures to mitigate dangers to wildlife, such as food scarcity, population decline, and species extinction due to factors including climate change.

As most areas of Mongolia are facing harsh winter this year, there are more occasions that wild animals appear in settled areas seeking food. To support the winter survival of Argali, Ibex, and Red Deer in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and Siilkhem Nuruu National Park, officials from the Administration of the Mongolian Altai Mountains Strictly Protected Area have placed a total of 260 bales of hay and nine tons of salt at eight locations so far.

Also, the National Park conducted monitoring in the entire area of B part of the Great Gobi National Park, which encompasses the territory of five soums of Gobi-Altai and Khovd aimags. The entire territory of the Great Gobi National Park is covered in a heavy blanket of snow, ranging from 15-20 cm thick on the plains to 40-52 cm in the mountains and ravines. Therefore, to help sustain the 273 head of takhi, which were reintroduced in the Sheep and Takhi Water Oasis, officials left 185 bales of hay at the site.
