Ulaanbaatar, April 24,
2025 /MONTSAME/. Tomorrow, April 25, 2025, will mark the centenary of the establishment of the Mongolian Air Force.
Commemorating this historical occasion, the renowned
aerobatic team “Strizhi” or "The Swifts" from the Russian Federation is
coming to Mongolia on April 25, 2025. Specifically, they will perform outstanding
stunts in the sky with their MiG-29 fighter jets. The air show will start at 09:00 am at the “Buaynt-Ukhaa” airport, and is open to the public. This aerobatic stunt
show will contribute to strengthening the friendly relations and the defense cooperation
between the two countries, and promote patriotism and fascination for the air
force among the younger generation.
On May 6, 1991, this
team was established from the 234th Squadron, which
consisted of the best pilots of the Kubinka military airbase near Moscow. On
that day, the pilots, arrayed with their trademark flight suits and new protective headgears, performed their first stunt. Team “Strizhi” flies highly maneuverable fighter
jets like MiG-29 and MiG-35 to perform difficult solo or team stunts that
require high precision piloting for the public.
The MiG-29 fighter jet’s top speed is 2,450 km/h
and can fly up to an altitude of 18,013 meters. In 2019, six MiG-29 fighter
jets came to Mongolia to mark the 98th anniversary of the establishment
of the Mongolian Air Force and performed a stunt show. Furthermore, that same
year, a team called “Russkie Vityazi” (The Russian Knights) of the Russian
Federation came to mark the 80th anniversary of the “Battle of Khalkhyn Gol”
and performed a stunt show with Su-30SM fighter jets over the Khui Doloon
Khudag complex as well.
