Ulaanbaatar, June 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Construction of the Cable Car Project, one of the 24 mega projects for the development of Ulaanbaatar City, is ongoing.

The first line of the Cable Car Project, along the Yarmag-Kharkhorin route, began on March 10, 2025. As of today, the drilling and installation of foundation pillars have been completed, and work on installing the pillars and connecting platforms is 30 percent complete. B. Munkhbayasgalan, Project Manager at "Monnis Engineering" LLC, shared updates on the project: "After installing six pillars located in the Tuul River basin out of the total of 19 support pillars planned for the project, we will begin assembling the metal structures for the foundation posts. Currently, the foundations for the pillars in the river basin are ready for concrete pouring. Once the concrete reaches 70 percent of its strength, the assembly of the upper metal structures will begin. We plan to complete all foundation work by August." Over 70 engineers and technical staff are working across 21 locations along the cable car route. Officials noted that the construction and installation works are planned to be fully completed by December 2025 and ready to be handed over for commissioning in the second quarter of 2026.

The 4.2-kilometer-long Yarmag-Kharkhorin cable car line will have two stations and 98 cabins, with a cabin capacity of 10 passengers and a travel time of 11 minutes. The support pillars will range in height from 7.5 to 42 meters, and transportation speed will be 21 kilometers per hour. Once operational, this infrastructure will help ease peak-hour traffic flow, reduce congestion in the Yarmag and Nisekh areas, and increase the average road traffic speed by 4 percent.
