Bayan-Undur, September 17, 2025 /MONTSAME/. To promote domestic tourism and highlight its mining industry, Orkhon aimag is hosting the Copper Festival for the third year, taking place from September 18 to 20.

As part of the Mongolian Government’s national initiative to prioritize tourism as a key economic sector, the years 2023–2025 have been declared the “Years to Visit Mongolia.” In this context, Orkhon aimag considers the Copper Festival as a signature event not only for the region but also as a national showcase.

The festival has become a tradition, offering a platform for both copper processing companies and small businesses and individuals who produce finished products made from copper to showcase their goods and services to the public.

There are more than 5,000 registered businesses in Orkhon aimag, five of which are directly engaged in the mining sector. Among the participants presenting their operations and products are Erdenet Mining Corporation SOE, Achit Ikht LLC, Gal Senti LLC, and Erdenemin LLC.

As part of today’s program, students from General Education Schools No. 4, 5, and 8, along with over 150 residents, visited the facilities of Zes Erdeniin Khuvi, Achit Ikht, Erdenemin, and Erdenet Mining Corporation to learn more about their activities.

As the home of Erdenet Mining Corporation, Orkhon aimag plays a central role in Mongolia’s copper industry. Established in 1978, Erdenet is one of the largest producers of copper and molybdenum in Asia and has been a key driver of the region’s economic growth for decades. The aimag’s identity, economy, and workforce remain deeply connected to copper production, making it a natural and symbolic host for the Copper Festival.
