MONTSAME journalist visits Yonhap
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Eight journalists from seven media companies around the world visited Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's key newswire service, on Monday as part of a government-sponsored journalism program, reports Yonhap.
The journalists are from Russia's Interfax, Italy's ANSA, Iran's IRNA, Mongolia's Montsame, Spain's EFE, Vietnam's V News and Venezuela's El Universal.
The program, run by the Korea Culture and Information Service, includes a visit to the promotion center for "K-Culture Valley," a massive cultural complex planned to be built outside Seoul where visitors can experience Korean cultural products, and a tour of the Creative Center for Convergence Culture in western Seoul. They also toured Yonhap News Agency and attended a presentation about the open API (Application Programming Interface) news exchange platform.
"Yonhap News Agency is one of the biggest news services in the country, and delivers domestic and global news every minute based on reporting from some 600 local reporters," said Park No-hwang, the service's president.
Explaining the open API platform, he stressed that "we are building this platform to better prepare for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the platform will help us freely exchange news content not only with our local partners but also with overseas partners."
The group will visit various places including the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) near the border with North Korea and historic places including Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul through July 22.
