414,382 people at least partially vaccinated for COVID-19 as rollout accelerates

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. As of April 5, Monday, a total of 414,382 people in Mongolia, or 22.4 percent of the nationwide vaccination target, have been fully or partially vaccinated against COVID-19. 372,876 of the vaccinated people are in the capital city and 41,506 people are in rural aimags.
Starting April 5, the vaccination rollout in Ulaanbaatar
city has been intensified to cover other groups of the population – people aged
between 18-49 years old and the vaccination held at 64 locations in Ulaanbaatar
city and rural regions, including, Selenge, Darkhan-Uul, Bulgan and Orkhon
aimags with over 1,000 healthcare workers of 138 vaccination teams
administering vaccines to over 38,000 people yesterday.
On April 6, today, 1,247 healthcare workers are working at
69 vaccination sites to immunize 33,750 people, reports the National Center for
Communicable Diseases (NCCD).
In addition, the NCCD reported that as of April 4, 732
people have been infected with COVID-19 after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19
vaccine, which makes up around 0.23 percent of the population vaccinated with
the first dose.
On the evening of April 4, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene made
a televised address to the population on the vaccine rollout. He assured that
the government of Mongolia announced the months of April and May 2021 as
‘months for nationwide vaccination’ and the vaccination rollout, which kicked
off on February 23, will be doubled beginning from that day.
“As a result, all adult population in Ulaanbaatar by May 1,
and all adult population in rural regions by June 1 will receive the first dose
of COVID-19 vaccine, and the all eligible adult population countrywide will be
fully vaccinated within July 1,” said the PM and called on the public to
actively participate in the coronavirus vaccine program to welcome the upcoming
summer months ‘COVID-free’.
Currently, Mongolia has received a total of 809,740 doses of
COVID-19 vaccines, including 164,000 doses of AstraZeneca via India’s
assistance and COVAX Facility, 600,000 doses of Sinopharm-Verocell vaccine from
China through donation and procurement, and 20,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine
purchased from Russia and 25,740 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine via COVAX Facility.
The governor of the capital city of Ulaanbaatar has also
made a resolution to suspend the operations of shopping malls, trade centers,
hairdressers, and beauty salons in Ulaanbaatar between April 10, Saturday, and
April 11, Sunday to enable active participation of the residents in the
COVID-19 public vaccination.
