Mongolian Freestyle Wrestlers Bagged Four Gold Medals
SportsUlaanbaatar, February 1 /MONTSAME/. Mongolian freestyle wrestlers claimed a total of 11 medals, including four gold, four silver, and three bronze medals from the international tournament, named after the two-time Olympic champion, world and European champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR Ivan Yarygin, held between January 26-28.
Representing Mongolia, over 60 wrestlers, including gold and silver medalists of World Championships, State Honored Athlete S. Tserenchimed, and gold medalist of World Championships, State Honored Athlete P. Orkhon were wrestled in this tournament, which has been held annually since 1991.
In the men's freestyle 61 kg category, International Master of Sports and bronze medalist of World Championships T. Tuwshintulga proved to be a contender to watch out for moving forward by receiving a silver medal from the tournament.
Silver medalist of World Championships, International Master of Sports E. Sumiya claimed a gold medal in the women’s freestyle 57 kg category, whereas the athlete of the national team B. Khongorzul also received the gold medal in the women’s 62 kg category.
In women’s 65 kg, and 72 kg
categories, International Master of Sport E. Dawaachimeg and State Honored
Athlete O. Burmaa both claimed gold medals. Specifically, O. Burmaa has bagged
silver medals in 2008, 2013, and 2020 and bronze medals in 2016. For the first
time in the past nine years, she became the champion of Ivan Yarygin 2023.
