Ulaanbaatar, October 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia and the Republic of Singapore have signed an agreement to elevate their cooperation in addressing climate change.

Specifically, the “Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore in Implementing the Paris Agreement” was signed on October 7, 2025, by First Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia and Minister of Economy and Development Uchral Nyam-Osor, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Batbaatar Bat, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.

Under the agreement, the sides will implement large-scale projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting green and sustainable development.

Mongolia has adopted its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3), pledging to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30.3 percent by 2035. Achieving this target requires cooperation with international and domestic partners, including private sector investment. Within the framework of the agreement, Singaporean investment will support carbon-reducing projects in renewable energy (hydropower, wind, and solar), energy-efficient technologies, waste management, reforestation, intensive agriculture, environmental rehabilitation, and sustainable infrastructure development. The initiative will not only promote Mongolia’s green transition but also create financial opportunities for development programs, open participation in international carbon credit markets, and generate local employment.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Batbaatar Bat said during the signing ceremony, “We highly value Singapore’s leadership and pragmatic experience in climate finance and implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This agreement will support Mongolia’s green and sustainable development transition and contribute to global climate goals. It will also demonstrate how developing and developed countries can cooperate based on trust, transparency, and technological partnership.”

The agreement marks a significant step toward expanding the scope of the two countries' strategic partnership and fostering practical cooperation in the green transition.
