Ulaanbaatar, October 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships for adults took place in Bhubaneswar, the Republic of India.

As previously reported, Mongolia’s men’s team placed 12th and secured qualification for the 2026 World Table Tennis Championships to be held in London, United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the women’s team finished 15th overall, also earning a spot at next year’s tournament. Although they lost 0:3 to Sri Lanka and Thailand in the group stage, they defeated Nepal 3:2 and Uzbekistan 3:0 in the qualification rounds, securing their place in the 100th edition of the World Championships.

Mongolia first competed in the World Table Tennis Championships in 1961, becoming one of the earliest sports to send athletes to a world championship. Since 2016, only the world’s top 40-ranked teams have been eligible to participate in the team championships, as determined by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Mongolia last took part in the team event in 2017.

The team and individual championships are now held alternately every two years. Thus, the Mongolian women’s team has qualified for the global stage for the first time in eight years since the 2018 World Championships in the Kingdom of Sweden.
