Ulaanbaatar, December 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa is paying a State Visit to the Italian Republic at the invitation of President Sergio Mattarella.

President Khurelsukh, accompanied by First Lady Bolortsetseg Luvsandorj and the official delegation, visited the Altar of the Fatherland and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to pay tribute.

Located at Piazza Venezia in central Rome, the monumental complex was erected in memory of King Victor Emmanuel II, who played a pivotal role in unifying the fragmented kingdoms after years of war and struggle, thereby laying the foundation for modern Italy in 1861. The Italian people revere King Victor Emmanuel II as the “Father of National Unity.”

Constructed from white marble over a period of more than fifty years beginning in 1885, the complex today stands not only as a historic and architectural landmark but also as a symbol of national pride and unity. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier represents the Italian people’s independence, conviction, and patriotism, and features an eternal flame symbolizing everlasting remembrance. During major national holidays and state ceremonies, Italy’s state leaders and visiting foreign dignitaries traditionally lay wreaths and pay their respects, the Office of the President reported.
