Khovd aimag to partner with Japan in food production

Khovd /MONTSAME/. A working group led by Ambassador of Japan Kobayashi Hiroyuki and Resident Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Mongolia Vinod Ahuja are on a working visit in Khovd aimag. On August 24, the delegates were received by the aimag authority to discuss the results of projects and programs implemented in the framework of the partnership and further objectives.

 

With support from the Government of Japan, over 10 projects have been implemented in Khovd aimag since 2001, with financing of a total of USD 1.3 million. As for FAO, the sides are currently efficiently partnering in increasing job opportunities in the aimag as well as in the production of value-added products.

 

Certain matters are to be focused, such as supporting youth employment through the support of agricultural operations, enhancing veterinary care and assistance, and introducing a new technology in the value-added system. Furthermore, a partnership will be conducted in providing support to small and medium-sized enterprises, the sides noted. From the several works planned for the health sector of Khovd aimag, the Health Center of Munkhkhairkhan soum is planned to go under renovation for starters.

 

During the meeting, the aimag authority put forth some suggestions, which included support in the operations of Jargalant and Bulgan agro parks in order to increase food production, study opportunities for Khovd aimag youth in specialized fields, establishment of a waste processing plant equipped with new technology as well as a slaughterhouse that meets modern standards.
