Ulaanbaatar, October 23, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection of Mongolia jointly implemented the Project for Promoting the Employment of Persons with Disabilities (DPUB2). The Project outcomes were presented at the meeting held in the "Holiday Inn" on October 22, 2024.

The Project, based on the experiences of countries with social welfare systems leading in providing services to persons with disabilities and the Japanese methodology on employment support, has established the social welfare system in Mongolia for persons with disabilities to be self-sufficient by receiving training, rehabilitation, and stable employment, stated the Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Protection of Mongolia Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren.

There are 112 thousand persons with disabilities in Mongolia, of which 93 thousand are capable of employment. However, only 15 thousand persons with disabilities are currently employed, which is twice as low compared to other countries. Participants at the closing event of DPUB2 discussed ways to promote employment of persons with disabilities in Mongolia.

“Training job coaches for persons with disabilities takes time and requires special skills. Over four years of its implementation, the Project prepared 16 job coaches nationwide to train persons with disabilities,” noted Acting Chair of the Human Resource Department of the General Authority for Development of Persons with Disabilities J. Javkhlantugs. These coaches trained and served over 230 persons with disabilities, helping them get employment.
