Training for human rights specialists taking place in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 18-19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights are co-organizing a training under the theme ‘Overview of international Human Rights system with a focus on Treaty Body reporting’ with a view to ensure the implementation of international treaties, make them comply with domestic laws, formulate report and deliver on time and improve the capacity of human rights specialists in the public sector.

The opening speeches were given by D.Davaasuren, State Secretary of Foreign Ministry and Beate Trankmann, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, reflecting the importance and impacts of the training.

The participants of the training defined the training as an efficient and well-timed event, being held prior to relevant important events, such as discussion on the 5th periodic report of the Convention on the Rights of the Child scheduled on May 26 in Geneva, Switzerland and discussion of the 6th national report of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which will take place on July 6-7.

The training is being attended by members of a working group in charge of producing reports of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, delegates of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia and officials of the UN Resident representative office, UN Children’s Fund and UN Food and Agricultural Organization in Mongolia.
