The history of Ulaanbaatar begins with the exalting of Zanabazar as Bogd Gegeen and building an Urgoo (Urga) in a place named Shireet Tsagaan Nuur in 1639. Urga changed locations 29 times since its foundation and settled on the banks of River Tuul, the current location, in 1778.
